Fire Station 63

The local Los Angeles Fire Department station opened it doors and had their trucks parked on the street this past weekend for a pancake breakfast. For the most part, Dan was more interested in the bounce house they had set up, even after he had his nose bloodied. After a rescue by Dad and a few tears, he was ready to go back in, despite the mosh-pit atmosphere. He finally agreed to check out the hook and ladder truck. Initially, he didn't want to get in until he was promised that he could "drive" it. What you can't see is that he is wearing a t-shirt with a fire truck on it.

Inside the truck, they had plugged in all their headsets and the radio on so that you could actually usethem. Dad sat in the jumpseat and wore a headset, too, and had as much of a conversation that one could have with a 3-year old who thought it was much more interesting to hear voices in the headset than to actually talk into one.

At the end, Danny wanted to go into the bounce house but seeing that the mayhem had not subsided, opted for a bag of fresh popcorn -- they were small batches and we had to wait a couple rounds before we got one. Despite its deliciousness, he kept putting small handfuls into the tray in the stroller so that Matt could partake (no pictures).

Starting to play together, sort of

Most of the day consists of, "Get Matty away from meeeeeee!" or "Matty, nooooooooo!" or "Matty stop chasing meeeeeeee!" or "Nooooo! That's myyyyy tooyyyyyyyy!" etc. etc. etc. which is inevitable followed by Matt's response loud wailing as if someone poked him in the eye and/or shivved him.

But every once in a while, Dan just might let or even (gasp) want Matt to play with him. The water table, well, that's a given. Cats and dogs would play nice with each other at the water table.

But the other day, Danny asked for Matt to be put in the wagon so that he could push him.

If Dan won't wear hats

maybe I can indoctrinate Matthew.

Otherwise, he will unleash the fury that is his ridiculously curly hair.

Someone likes planes

If he sees a plane overhead, he's very quick to point it out. I think he's more used to spotting the smaller planes that fly out of Santa Monica Airport because you can hear those when they fly over our house. Here he is with a front row seat on the tarmac:

A little melancholy about leaving...

At the Playground (ya know)

With Mary now working, I have been with the boys during the day. One morning, we went to Aidan's Place, which is the mega-playground just off Sepuveda, near Westwood. Most of the playground is geared for kids Danny's age and older. This one day, after the three of us snacked on some toasted seaweed, Danny wanted to go to this other playground that was nearby (that has an easier to navigate layout and is less crowded) so that Matt could also play.

Risky Business...

People said they wanted walking videos...
